About The Book

Innocence Denied: A Holocaust Childhood

Johannes Krane’s memoir Innocence Denied: A Holocaust Childhood features his story from the harrowing period of WWII when he was only an innocent ten years old. Johannes and his family fought to survive the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. Johannes and his brother, Dick, were forced to engage in sometimes legal and often unlawful dealings to help their deaf and mute parents make ends meet.

The plot centers around how the two brothers shielded their family from death and starvation while losing their childhood innocence in the process. The poignant memoir serves as a reminder of the devastation that war inflicts on the innocent.
